Abstract

Introduction. Humor is a universal psychological mechanism that serves various functions in emotional, cognitive, and social domains. Its role in human life is multifaceted, and the development of a sense of humor contributes to improving quality of life and fostering personal growth. The study of humor styles in boys and girls is particularly relevant in modern conditions, where social roles, emotional interaction, and communication methods are evolving due to the development of the information society.Humor plays an important role in interpersonal communication by facilitating emotional connection, reducing tension, and promoting adaptation to social conditions. During adolescence, a period characterized by the active formation of social roles, personal identity, and communication skills, humor style becomes a significant tool for self-expression.Purpose. The aim of the study is to identify the features of humor styles in boys and girls. The methodological foundation of the research is the functional approach to humor proposed by R. Martin. The scientific novelty of the study lies in exploring gender-based differential differences in adolescents’ humor styles, which helps uncover specific manifestations of humor depending on gender during this developmental stage.Conclusions. Humor is not only a source of entertainment but also an essential tool for maintaining psychological well- being, developing interpersonal relationships, and adapting to life’s changes. Adolescents’ humor styles are influenced by gender, as evidenced by varying expressions of humor, its themes, and modes of communication. For instance, boys are more likely to use aggressive humor, including satire and irony, while girls tend to prefer more subtle humor focused on relationships and social situations. Thus, the study of humor styles in boys and girls holds both theoretical significance for science and practical value for improving the quality of life and interpersonal interactions among youth.
