Abstract

Introduction. This article examines the characteristics of the development of social and psychological competencies in orphans and children deprived of parental care. Foreign and domestic programs for acquiring social competencies are analyzed, specifically: “Culture of Life Self-Determination” and “Development of Independent Living Skills” for high school students at general education boarding schools for orphans and children deprived of parental care. The results of an experimental study conducted at the Pluzhne Gymnasium of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Council are presented. The study aimed to identify various aspects of the lives of orphans and children deprived of parental care: readiness for independent living, communication with peers and teachers, and internalization and externalization. Purpose and objectives of the article. To analyze the identification of socio-psychological competencies in orphans and children deprived of parental care, specifically: independent decision-making, communication with peers, teachers, and others both within and outside the institution, as well as the identification of the predominant locus of control. Results. Based on the results of a comprehensive assessment, we can note that this category of respondents exhibits a low level of responsibility in their views and tends to shift this responsibility onto others (parents, friends, classmates, etc.) However, given the age-related characteristics of the study participants, we have reason to believe that this is not yet a critical threshold and that there is still an opportunity to influence the mindset of this group, which we will attempt to do in the future using one of the following methods.
