FORMATION OF LOGISTICS HUBS IN THE BORDER REGIONS OF UKRAINE: ECONOMIC ADVANTAGES AND INTEGRATION CHALLENGES

The development of logistics hubs in Ukraine’s border regions is a driver of international trade and regional integration. Border territories provide opportunities for multimodal transport corridors, investment attraction, and cross-border cooperation, requiring strategic planning and management. Introduction. In globalization and growing trade flows, forming logistics hubs in Ukraine’s border regions is a key task to strengthen integration into European and global space. Ukraine’s position as a transit corridor between the EU and Asia gives potential for multimodal infrastructure, but realization is limited by infrastructural disparities, institutional weaknesses, and the need for harmonization with international standards. Purpose. The study aims to substantiate economic advantages and identify challenges of creating logistics hubs in border regions, and to develop recommendations for an effective regional logistics network that supports competitiveness and sustainable growth. Methods. The research applies comparative analysis of international practices, statistical evaluation of economic potential, and SWOT analysis to assess strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Systems analysis is used to identify factors influencing regional logistics efficiency. Results. Findings show that logistics hubs reduce transport costs, increase transit flows, attract investment, and stimulate employment. Experience of Poland and Estonia proves that integration requires infrastructural modernization, digitalization of customs and transport, and public-private partnerships. SWOT analysis highlights infrastructure asymmetry, regulatory inconsistencies, and geopolitical risks as barriers, while transit potential, cooperation, and EU integration are opportunities. Conclusion. Creating logistics hubs in border regions requires infrastructural upgrades, human capital development, institutional reforms, and digital innovations in logistics. Priorities include harmonization of customs with EU standards, development of multimodal corridors, and promotion of regional cooperation. These measures will enhance efficiency of Ukraine’s logistics system and strengthen competitiveness of border regions globally.
